President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the L. Maavah Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members to discuss the island's key concerns and development priorities. The meeting took place at the Secretariat of the Maavah Council.
The President's decision to designate Maavah Island as the maiden destination of his tour of several islands in Laamu Atoll was acknowledged by the Council as evidence of the Government's priority and dedication to the island during the meeting.
The Maavah Council proposed that Maavah Island serve as the site of a possible second airport constructed in Laamu Atoll, highlighting the lack of transportation and distance from other islands in the atoll. The Council members also emphasised the significance of reclaiming land for developing tourism, healthcare, and land allocation.
President Dr Muizzu, accompanied by the Cabinet Ministers present at the meeting, offered updates on the Government's ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing the issues raised by the Council. Additionally, he assured that the Council's recommendations would be considered and pursued.
