President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a plan to commence renewable energy projects in schools starting next year, aiming to facilitate the powering of air conditioning units in classrooms. He made the remarks while speaking with the residents of Meedhoo Island, South Nilandhe Atoll.
The President acknowledged the common request for this initiative from students, teachers, and school managements across the nation.
The President also added that the establishment of handball courts is a highly anticipated project by Women's Development Committees (WDCs) nationwide. He affirmed the Administration's commitment to allocate funds in next year's budget for developing these facilities on as many islands as possible.
Further, the President committed to linking Meedhoo Island with the reclaimed area by ensuring essential service connectivity, including electricity, water, and sanitation networks. Simultaneously, road construction will commence alongside the development of roads on Meedhoo mainland. He also stated that the Administration aims to establish at least 200 housing units on Meedhoo Island as part of the nationwide housing project. The President pledged to enhance the island's harbour, incorporating requested changes as per the residents' preferences.
