President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially announced the Administration's decision to incorporate Maaddoo Island into the jurisdiction of the Eydhafushi Island Council. The President stated that the necessary documentation for this inclusion would be finalised and promptly handed over to the Council within the week. He made these announcements while addressing the residents of Eydhafushi Island in the South Maalhosmadulu Atoll.
Explaining the rationale behind including Maaddoo within the purview of Eydhafushi, the President highlighted the impracticality of further land reclamation on Eydhafushi Island. He emphasized that the solution to address land shortage challenges involves incorporating an additional island under the jurisdiction of Eydhafushi.
Continuing, President Dr Muizzu addressed the housing difficulties on Eydhafushi Island, stating that the Administration would prioritize the island under its plans to build 40,000 housing units in regions other than the Malé region.
The President also outlined the development of seven specific regions as urban centres intended to benefit a large number of citizens, identifying Eydhafushi Island among these seven urban centers slated for development by the Administration. In this regard, the President emphasised the Administration's commitment to Eydhafushi Island's development.
Eydhafushi marks the President's fifth destination on his tour of several North and South Maalhosmadulu Atoll islands.
