President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the members of the South Thiladhunmathi Atoll Council on Monday. The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the South Thiladhunmathi Atoll Council.
During the meeting, the Council members shared their vision of the Atoll by 2040 with the president. The vision includes the development of tourism and the establishment of a regional port. The members requested the Administration's assistance in drawing investors for the atoll’s development. The members also expressed concern about not having a designated island to govern the atoll. The Council also emphasised the need to conduct a pilot programme to advance the fishing industry in South Thiladhunmathi Atoll. The members assured full support for the government.
Speaking at the meeting, the President encouraged the Atoll Council to create a development plan that would benefit all the islands in the atoll. He also shared the government's initiatives aimed at improving the economy of the Maldives. Additionally, the President announced that from next month, mosques will be charged electricity bills at domestic rates to assist the Council’s budgetary constraints. The attending Ministers updated the Council on the latest Government efforts to address the issues raised during the meeting.
