President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has constituted the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research under the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage today. He established the new institution under the discretion vested in him by Article 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

This announcement was made in the President's Office Directive 02/2024.

According to the directive, all correspondence addressed to the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research shall use the number 497, per the numbering system for state agencies.

The National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research is a government institution founded to revive and instil knowledge of the Dhivehi language, history, culture, heritage, legacy, traditions, and patriotism within its mandate. Additionally, the institution aims to foster a sense of patriotism and a general knowledge and comprehension of nationalism among the populace.

The Dhivehi name for the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research is "ދިވެހި ތަރިކަ ދިރާސާކުރާ ޤައުމީ މަރުކަޒު".

The National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research conducts activities encompassing a variety of tasks, including revitalising a sense of patriotism and spirit of service, translating articles about the country from various languages into the local dialect, translating traditional materials about the Maldives and its indigenous population into Dhivehi.
