President Dr Mohamed Muizzu congratulated Adam Azim, Mayor-elect of Malé City, via phone call today. Adam Azim ran as a candidate for the vacant mayoral position at the Malé City Council (MCC) on the ticket of the Maldivian Democratic Party.
During the phone call, the President assured the Mayor-elect that the Mayor and the City Council would have the Government’s full support. He implored the Mayor-elect to work alongside the Government’s decentralised governance policy on issues concerning citizens. The President further expressed his hope that the City Council would continue to work with the Government.
The Administration has officially initiated the process of delegating municipal services in Hulhumalé to the MCC, per the "Hafuthaa 14" roadmap. Transferring all municipal services in Malé City to the MCC is among President Dr Muizzu’s Presidential pledges.
The Government has additionally secured financial and additional arrangements for the announced social housing mega-project aimed at resolving the housing shortage in Malé City. Furthermore, following the President's state visit to China, the required finances to redevelop the roads in Malé City have been secured. The Administration is presently exploring the financing of public low-interest loan schemes for apartment purchases and housing construction.
