Upon the Cabinet’s recommendation, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to reserve certain jobs exclusively for Maldivians in fields with talented, interested and promising Maldivian youth. This decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Higher Education during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
This policy's main objectives include developing Maldivians in specific sectors and preventing the decline of Maldivians in these fields. Hence, the positions listed in these fields will only be open to Maldivians and there will be numerous phases to the policy's implementation.
Boat building, carpentry, hairstyling and beauty, resort musicians and bands, customer service, housekeeping manager, front office manager, human resources manager, diving instructor and tour guide are some of the specialised vocations reserved only to Maldivians.
At a press conference held today at the President's Office on yesterday's Cabinet meeting, the Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy, Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim stated that the relevant agencies will prioritise training Maldivians in these areas.
