Upon the Cabinet's recommendation, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has resolved to establish a comprehensive guideline for the employment of people with disabilities. This decision aligns with the policy of promoting employment opportunities for people with disabilities. This decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Social and Family Development during today's Cabinet meeting.
President Dr Muizzu's first 14-week roadmap for office prominently featured a policy aimed at fostering job creation for individuals with disabilities within the civil service and state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The new guideline, designed to operationalise this policy, paves the way for enhanced employment prospects for people with disabilities in the civil service and within SOEs.
The guideline encloses provisions for enhancing workplace safety for individuals with disabilities, mitigating potential stressors in the work environment, and implementing training programmes to sensitise employees about disabilities. As many as 12,011 people are enrolled in the disability category as of November 2023.
