President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to allocate all official Hajj quotas granted to the Maldives each year to the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited. This decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs during today’s Cabinet meeting.
Presently, 6,000 pilgrims are registered in the hajj corporation queue to perform the pilgrimage, of which 4,706 have collected and paid their dues. The Cabinet deliberated allocating the official Hajj quotas administered to the Maldives annually to The Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited to avoid prolonging their wait, improve the quality of service, and increase the general public's confidence in the quality of service provided by Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.
In recent years, the Maldives Hajj Mission and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs have received several complaints concerning the quality of services provided by various companies transporting pilgrims, including allegations of overcharging. This measure intends to facilitate Maldivian pilgrims performing the Hajj more conveniently.
