Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Mehmet Şimşek, paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the Presidential Guesthouse in Ankara.

During the call, the Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance congratulated President Dr Muizzu on his assumption of office.

Moreover, the President shared his ambitious plan to further strengthen and expand the Maldivian economy which includes accelerating the completion of Velana International Airport development project, increasing air connectivity, and establishing partnerships in the tourism, education, and travel industries.

Concluding the call the President and the Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance reiterated their commitment to further strengthening this long-standing friendship. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Türkiye were established on May 28, 1979.

President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to Türkiye at the invitation of the Turkish President. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials are accompanying the President on the visit.
