Chairman and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Professor Dr Numan Kurtulmuş, paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the Parliament Building in Ankara.
During the call, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly offered felicitations to President Dr Muizzu on his assumption of office. They highlighted the longstanding bilateral relations between the Maldives and Türkiye.
In the meeting, the President and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly expressed interest in working closely to discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly enhancing engagement between the two Parliaments and further promoting the excellent relations between the Maldives and Türkiye. They also discussed cooperation between the Maldives and Türkiye in the fields of agriculture, high technology and tourism.
The Speaker commended the Maldives' stance on the Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine and praised the Maldives for supporting an immediate ceasefire at the UN.
Concluding the call, President Dr Muizzu and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly expressed their hope that the Maldives- Türkiye partnership would reach greater heights under President Dr Muizzu’s tenure. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Türkiye were established on May 28, 1979.
President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to Türkiye at the invitation of the Turkish President. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials are accompanying the President on the visit.
