The Chairman of the Xizang Autonomous Region, H.E. Yan Jinhai, and a delegation paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the President's Office.
Chairman Yan congratulated the President on his successful election and assumption of office, expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality received in the Maldives.
The President thanked Chairman Yan for his visit and engaged in discussions on various areas of mutual interest for close cooperation, including the initiation of direct flights between the Maldives and Xizang Autonomous Region, and exploring ways to expand tourism. Cultural similarities and shared challenges, such as climate change, were also discussed.
Chairman Yan briefed the President on various aspects of the Xizang Autonomous Region, covering its culture, geography, and unique environment. Recognizing the Maldives' need for clean water, he generously offered to provide 1,500 tonnes of glacial bottled water sourced from the Xizang Autonomous Region. The President graciously accepted the offer.
In conclusion of the meeting, President Dr Muizzu and Chairman Yan underlined the historic friendship between the Maldives and China spanning several decades and wished for further prosperity in the years to come.
