Vice President Faisal Naseem officially inaugurated the new Oncology Ward at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Wednesday. Following the inauguration ceremony at IGMH, the Vice President toured the ward and inquired about the services offered at the facility. The facility specialises in a range of medical and support services for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and management.
At the inaugural ceremony, Vice President Naseem emphasised the significant progress achieved by the administration in enhancing healthcare services in the country. He highlighted the importance of establishing an oncology ward at IGMH and recalled the administration's numerous efforts to introduce new healthcare services and improve service delivery at the hospital.
The Vice President also stated that the administration's focus on developing healthcare services in the atolls is aimed at reducing the difficulties faced by residents of the islands in travelling to Malé for healthcare services. He also highlighted the administration's ambitious efforts to develop tertiary-level hospitals in five regions of the country, noting that these hospitals are introducing new services.
The newly inaugurated Oncology Ward at IGMH features eight beds and is equipped with two lavatories for patients, a nursing station, a waiting area, a staff area, a medical storage room, and an administrative office. The development of the Oncology Ward was made possible through the support of Bank of Maldives (BML), which undertook the project as one of 12 high-impact community initiatives to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
