First Lady Fazna Ahmed attended Tuesday's closing ceremony of the 'Burunu Shikaara Bodyboarding Challenge 2023'. The event was held at the 'Raalhugandu' surf break in Malé City.
Before the closing ceremony, the First Lady attended the final heats of the three categories of the tournament: junior division, men's open division, and drop knee division. She presented trophies to the winners, runners-up, and third-place finishers in the junior division category.
At the ceremony, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the late Ibrahim Ahmed Shukoor, a former board member of the Surfing Association of the Maldives. Shukoor was a prominent surfer who had extensively served the surfing and bodyboarding sports.
The Burunu Shikaaru Bodyboarding Challenge 2023 was held from June 18-20, 2023. The tournament was the inaugural event of the National Bodyboarding League 2023 and the fifth edition of the competition overall. Twenty-five athletes competed in the three categories of the tournament.
