President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the members of the Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Addu City and engaged with them in a constructive dialogue, highlighting the administration's steadfast commitment to promoting women's empowerment. The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Addu City Council on Hithadhoo Island, providing an opportunity to discuss the progress and initiatives to foster the socio-economic growth and well-being of women in the city.
During the meeting, the WDC members expressed their concern regarding the council's current allocation of the budget and emphasised the importance of increasing the percentage designated for WDC activities. They also suggested introducing additional allowances for WDC members and proposed strategies to enhance women's empowerment in broader society.
In response to the concerns raised at the meeting, President Solih underscored the importance of amending relevant laws to facilitate the committee in addressing their challenges more effectively. He further assured the members that the administration would examine the necessary changes required to streamline and enhance their work, aiming to create a more conducive environment for their endeavours.
The President is undertaking a three-day official visit to Addu City, accompanied by a delegation of high-level officials. The visit aims to strengthen engagement and explore opportunities for further collaboration between the administration and Addu City authorities.
