President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Saturday with the Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members of Dharanboodhoo Island in the Faafu Atoll. The meeting was held at the secretariat of the Dharanboodhoo Island Council this evening.
Speaking at the meeting, the President emphasised his administration's commitment to inclusive island development through active consultation with councils and the active participation of the community. At the meeting, the council members highlighted the administration's implementation of diverse development projects, such as the coastline protection initiative, the construction of a high-quality football field with a running track, and the establishment of a social centre to enhance the island's overall progress.
The council members commended the administration's commitment to constructing a youth and community centre on Dharanboodhoo Island. They also expressed concerns regarding the financial grant format for councils, highlighted the need for a multipurpose hall at the Dharanboodhoo School, and raised the issue of insufficient space for nurses to work at the healthcare centre.
During the meeting, the President was briefed by the WDC members regarding the various activities undertaken by the committee during the current term. Additionally, the committee highlighted the financial constraints that have impacted their work. He further expressed the need to revise the existing criteria for distributing council grants.
President Solih responded to the concerns raised by the council and WDC members, expressing his unwavering commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address the identified issues effectively.
The President and the First Lady are on an official visit to the inhabited islands of the Faafu Atoll. They are accompanied on the visit by a high-level delegation of the government.
