Vice President Faisal Naseem stated on Friday that the administration’s decision to increase healthcare sector wages this May would encourage more students to pursue higher studies in the sector. He made these remarks while speaking at his meeting with the Maldivian community residing in Bangladesh. The Vice President is in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to attend the sixth Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) 2023.
The meeting with the Maldivian community was held at the High Commission of the Maldives in Bangladesh, where he met with the management and staff. Speaking at the meeting with the Maldivian community, the Vice President stated that the administration has been undertaking ambitious plans to enhance healthcare services across the country. Highlighting the significance of increasing the number of trained professionals in the workforce, the Vice President added that the administration prioritises training teachers and doctors who offer invaluable services.
The Vice President also noted that many Maldivian medical students and others in specialised fields choose to attain higher education at Bangladeshi institutions. He added that the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh resulted in easing visa facilitation for Maldivian students.
Speaking about Maldivian communities living abroad, the Vice President stated that the administration is committed to providing them with the necessary services without discrimination. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue to closely monitor the situation of Maldivian students and families living abroad.
IOC 2023 is held in Dhaka from May 12-13, 2023.
