President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Monday with the Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members of Kolhufushi Island in the Meemu Atoll. The meeting was held at the Secretariat of Kolhufushi Island Council.
Speaking with the community leaders, President Solih stated that the administration prioritised consulting with community leaders and residents to improve their engagement and inquire about their sentiments towards its developmental plans. He also extended his gratitude for the warm welcome he and the First Lady received upon arrival on the island.
At the meeting, the council members noted that this administration had initiated the most developmental projects on the island. Adding that the administration had successfully fulfilled essential services on the island, the council members noted that the ongoing project to develop 100 housing units would address most of the community's concerns.
The council members also shared with the President the need for road construction, the development of the football ground and community centre, and arranging travel to Muli Island via the lagoon.
President Solih briefed the council members on the administration's developmental plans for Kolhufushi Island, including projects earmarked for next year and updates on efforts to develop tourism in the region. He also informed them of the administration's plans to expedite the ongoing housing project.
The President and the First Lady visited Kolhufushi Island to attend functions to mark National Unity Day, observed every year on December 26.
