President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Saturday with the community of Maamendhoo Island as part of his ongoing visit to three islands in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll. At the meeting held near the new power plant, President Solih briefed the community about the administration’s developmental plans for the island.
The residents of the island shared with the President their most pertinent needs and concerns and expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing water supply network project.
President Solih recalled earlier discussions with the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members and spoke about the administration’s plans to address the concerns of the island’s community. He announced that a road construction project would commence with the completion of the water and sewerage network project.
Other topics discussed at the meeting include housing needs, expediting the water and sewerage network project and challenges in procuring prescription medicines. The President added that the council would be able to address housing needs with the finalisation of the land-use plan.
The President is currently visiting three islands in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll. A high-level government delegation is accompanying him on the visit.
