First Lady Fazna Ahmed on Saturday inaugurated the 6th International Teachers’ Conference. The opening ceremony was held in Kulhudhuffushi City.
Addressing the event, the First Lady reminded us that even the competencies needed to succeed in an increasingly globalised, automated, networked, and flexible world could not outweigh some skills and values we hold as human beings. She highlighted the importance of creative thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, effective communication, equity, community participation, care for the environment, integrity, respect, and human rights to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
The First Lady emphasised the need to encourage students to take an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and the liberal arts and not only confine themselves to seemingly popular business streams. She urged teachers to act as facilitators to empower students to think independently, learn, and design their futures in tomorrow’s workplace.
The First Lady also reiterated that as teaching strategies evolve to accommodate the new standards in the classrooms that operate in remote, hybrid, and in-class scenarios, we need to use this opportunity to its maximum so that students of this island nation can learn and thrive on their islands.
Before addressing the participants, the First Lady officially inaugurated the 6th International Teachers’ Conference held at Haa Dhaalu Atoll Education Center in Kulhudhuffushi City. She was also presented with a plaque of appreciation by the Ministry of Education.
