President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday met with members of the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Maalhos Island in the Alifu Alifu Atoll. The meeting was held at the President’s Office.
Discussions at the meeting centred on the developmental projects carried out on the island and the pertinent needs of the island’s community. The council members highlighted that the island had been undergoing significant developmental progress under this administration and extended their gratitude to the President.
The council members shared with the President concerns of the island community related to improving healthcare services, and the need for a new mosque and a beach. They also discussed challenges facing the island in developing local tourism, proper waste management, and training people in technical fields.
Members of the WDC shared their concerns related to budget constraints. Discussions were also held about the needs and concerns of the Mathiveri constituency.
Speaking at the meeting, the President said that the administration will look into ways to earmark funds in the budget for next year to address the issues raised at the meeting. He also assured them that their concerns would be shared with relevant government stakeholders.
