Vice President Faisal Naseem on Saturday met with the members of the island council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and the heads of the island’s institutes in Innamaadhoo Island in Raa Atoll and discussed the island’s developmental needs.

At the meeting, the members of the island council, the WDC and the heads of the island’s institutes relayed their most pressing concerns to the Vice President. They noted concerns regarding the water and sewerage project; expanding the island’s harbour; space constraints of the school; and the need for an extension building for the island’s health centre. They also expressed concern about the beach erosion issue on the island; difficulties in waste management; the need for a police post and discussed allocating land from Vandhoo Island in Raa Atoll for industrial work.

The members of the WDC emphasised the need to establish a children’s park and a designated swimming area on the island.

The Vice President stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the administration place a high value on listening to the concerns and needs of the people and carrying out developmental work based on the individual needs of the islands. He stated that he would speak with the relevant ministries to address the concerns raised in the meeting.

During his visit to Innamaadhoo Island, the Vice President also visited the island's health centre and met with senior management and staff, and discussed their service needs.

Earlier today, the Vice President toured the Zone II Regional Waste Management Facility on Vandhoo Island in Raa Atoll. The Waste Management Corporation Ltd. (WAMCO) staff briefed him on the facility's operations.
