H.E President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday visited the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) and met with H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Chairman of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company at the EDB.

At the meeting, the President noted that the Bahrain Telecommunications Authority (Batelco) is a majority shareholder in Dhiraagu, the largest public company and telecommunications operator in the Maldives, and stated that the company has positively impacted the country’s economy. The President also welcomed Bahrain’s decision to grant the Maldives sovereignty over the data of its beneficiaries in Bahrain-based data centres.

The President praised the measures taken by Bahrain in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. He also reflected on the Maldives’ response measures during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The President and the Deputy Prime Minister also discussed future trade and investment opportunities and potential areas of collaboration between the two countries. Ministers from both sides engaged in discussions on avenues of further cooperation.

The President was given a presentation on the EDB’s operations. The EDB is an investment promotion agency responsible for attracting investment into the Kingdom and supporting initiatives that enhance the investment climate.

Following the visit, H.E. First Lady Fazna Ahmed joined the President at the dinner reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister.
