President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday ratified the seventh amendment to the Maldives Employment Act (2/2008). The amendment was passed by Parliament on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the 16th sitting of its third session this year.

The amendment stipulates that the Minister of Economic Development, upon recommendation from the Minimum Wage Advisory Board, which reflects the economic situation, self-sufficiency, and productivity of the nation, must announce a date for employers to act upon, regarding the implementation of minimum wages for the expatriate working population in the Maldives.

With the bill's ratification, the act has been published in the Government Gazette and is in effect.
