The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of the Maldives, H.E. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, on Monday, presented his credentials to H.E. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
At the meeting held after the ceremony, the President welcomed the new High Commissioner to the Maldives and congratulated him on his appointment. The President expressed hope for further strengthening the two countries' 33-year-long stable diplomatic relations through increased bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The High Commissioner of Ghana expressed gratitude for accepting him as the new High Commissioner to the Maldives. He discussed mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries, particularly in agriculture and tourism. The newly appointed High Commissioner noted that Ghana could learn a lot from the Maldives' tourism industry and proposed looking into investment opportunities from Maldivian enterprises to help Ghana's tourism sector.
The President highlighted that this year marked 50-years since the tourism industry was established in the Maldives and assured support for the development of Ghana’s tourism sector. He also stated that the administration was focused on promoting sustainable practices in the country's tourism industry.
Before concluding the meeting, the President expressed hope for increased people-to-people contact between the two countries, which he noted was essential to strengthening bilateral ties and boosting trade and investment. The President and the High Commissioner also reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in the international fora to advance issues of mutual interest.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Ghana on August 10, 1989.
