President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday visited the Velana International Airport (VIA) and inspected the progress of the ongoing developmental projects. The President was received by senior officials of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
President Solih toured the airport’s new seaplane terminal, fire station, passenger terminal building, cargo terminal, and fuel farm during his visit. Some of the components of the expansion project include installing a new fuel hydrant system; developing a new fuel farm; establishing a designated area for cargo; and development of a new passenger terminal building.
Currently, 85 per cent of the fuel hydrant system is complete, while 95 per cent of the fuel farm area has been completed. Additionally, 95 per cent of the work on the cargo terminal has been completed, and the cargo jetty is 98 per cent complete. Work on the passenger terminal building is also 30 per cent complete.
