Dr Patrick Verkooijen, the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), on Monday morning paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President’s Office.
During the call, President Solih welcomed Dr Verkooijen to the Maldives and discussed the Maldives’ climate change adaptation efforts at length. Outlining the Maldives’ ambitious plans to combat climate change, the President highlighted that we require cooperation and assistance from international partners, particularly in gaining access to finance for climate adaptation.
During the discussions, Dr Verkooijen briefed the President on GCA’s ongoing negotiations and working partnership with the Maldives and other international partners on climate change adaptation. He stressed that the GCA is providing a concrete work schedule of initiatives to meet President Solih's vision of climate objectives. He also assured the President that GCA would continue to support and assist the Maldives in tackling and achieving its climate objectives.
