Vice President Faisal Naseem on Monday broke ground on a new mosque development project in Fuvahmulah City. The new mosque would be located near the harbour in the Dhoodigan district.
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the project, the Vice President noted that it was a long-awaited wish of the residents to see a mosque developed in their neighbourhood. He then spoke about the high values accorded by the administration towards religious affairs and national development.
The MVR 11.9 million project, funded by the government, would see the completion of the mosque within a year. The mosque, which can accommodate up to 500 people, would feature modern architecture and design. Members of the Cabinet and senior officials of the government and Fuvahmulah City attended the ceremony.
Afterwards, the Vice President toured and inspected the Fuvahmulah Harbour and the progress of the work to close up the channels that were used earlier for navigation. He initiated the project during his visit to the city in October 2021.
