President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have met Aman Ahmed Athif, a six-year-old boy from Hithaadhoo in Baa Atoll, who had memorised the Holy Quran. Aman, a student at Excel International School in Malé, was invited to the President’s Office along with his parents, late Thursday afternoon.
The President and First Lady congratulated the young boy and expressed their delight at his accomplishment. The President also congratulated Aman’s parents, Ms Lubana Mohamed and Mr Ahmed Athif, for their hard work and encouragement, which had undoubtedly enabled Aman to achieve the incredible feat at such a young age.
President Solih also conferred a trophy to Aman, awarded by his school, along with a special gift on behalf of the first couple. The President then asked Aman about his journey to memorise the entirety of the Holy Quran and what had sparked his interest to become a Hafiz. President Solih also requested Aman to recite a surah from the Holy Quran, which he obliged to.
Speaking to the President and the First Lady, Aman’s parents revealed that Aman had been passionate about listening to Quran recitals from an early age. They thanked the first couple for meeting with Aman and expressed their appreciation for the gesture.
Excel International School, which teaches a U.S. curriculum, has submitted all the necessary documents to the National Centre for the Holy Quran for Aman to take the Hafiz exam and become a formally registered Hafiz. Holy Quran, Arabic Language, Islamic Studies and Dhivehi Language are also part of the school’s core curriculum.
