President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, late Thursday night, held an emergency session of his Cabinet in Mulee’aage, following an explosion that left the Speaker of Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed, with numerous injuries. The explosion on Thursday night happened outside the Speaker’s residence on Neeloafaru Hingun and wounded several members of his security detail and innocent bystanders.
At the meeting, President Solih discussed with his cabinet the steps taken immediately following the incident and ensuing investigations into the matter. Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the President and his cabinet deliberated on expediting the investigation. They also discussed ways of strengthening and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
The Speaker was rushed to ADK Hospital following the incident, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. The government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
