In his two-day visit to Gaafu Alif Atoll, one of the Southernmost Atolls in the country, Vice President Faisal Naseem, this morning, inaugurated ‘Dhagenaa’ - an establishment specialised for community rehabilitation services in Villingili Island. Speaking at the ceremony, he stated that sincerity and goodwill is a precondition for auspicious outcomes when seeking solutions for countrywide social issues.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Vice President elaborated on the prominence attached by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his Administration in addressing nationwide social issues. In this regard, he added that the Social Council was established by President Solih in the early days of the Administration and was tasked with identification and remedying of such issues. Reinforcing the Administration’s stance on social reform, the Vice President highlighted that all rectification efforts are implemented with candor and compassion.

He also spoke on the importance of instigating comprehensive and sustainable approaches towards addressing extensive social issues. He added that systematic and policy reforms are inevitable and that these must adapt to the dynamic nature of the issue in focus. Speaking in this regard, Vice President Faisal Naseem detailed that this Government has introduced numerous policy-level changes to the narcotics rehabilitation process, and that the newly-adopted policies are being implemented within the programmes conducted through rehabilitation clinics. He further noted that the Government’s efforts are focussed not only towards strengthening the rehabilitation process, but to also facilitate community reintegration.

Speaking on ‘Dhagenaa’, Vice President Faisal Naseem praised it as a comprehensive rehabilitation and community reintegration programme designed to cater for each individual throughout the whole process. Speaking in this regard, the Vice President urged all members of the public to hold a more progressive and fresh approach towards those addicted to narcotics within our society. He added that ‘Dhagenaa’ is a monumental evidence of the Administration’s resolve to rehabilitate youth entrapped in narcotic addiction. Speaking further, Vice President said that the success of the establishment will be an accomplishment for nationwide long-term drug rehabilitation and will benefit the whole populace. He called upon the whole society to commit to the cause and to be more accepting as a society towards the rehabilitation process and towards victims of narcotics abuse.

The Vice President was accompanied at the ceremony by the Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdulla, Minister of Gender Family and Social Services, Aishath Mohamed Didi, and Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office, Dr Musthafa Lutfi.
