This Administration gives high priority to protecting and preserving the rights of persons with disabilities, as part of its commitment to building just and equitable communities in the Maldives. Towards this end Vice President Faisal Naseem met with senior officials from the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, to discuss ways to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities.

Senior officials from the Ministry's Disability Division briefed the Vice President on projects underway meant to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities and ensure their just treatment. They also shared plans to increase the effectiveness of ongoing projects. Topics discussed included policy reforms to enhance the ease of the registration process for persons with disabilities, and facilitating better assistance to their families and caretakers.

The Vice President praised the Ministry's ongoing efforts to protect the the rights of persons with disabilities, especially their commitment to equal treatment and accessibility. While commending them, he appealed to them to continue to do their good work.

The meeting was joined by Aishath Mohamed Didi, Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services; senior officials from the Ministry; Dr Mustafa Luthfee, Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office; and Dr Abdul Malik, Under-Secretary at the President’s Office.
