Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with the members of the Maldivian Orthopaedic Association to discuss human resource development in the field of orthopaedics. The meeting was held at the President’s Office this morning.
The members shared a presentation of comparative statistics between the previous and current situation of Maldivian Orthopaedic history. They highlighted that the number of patients requiring orthopaedic care greatly exceeds the number of specialist doctors available in the country, leading to a clear disparity between demand and availability of services. They also stressed on the necessity and importance of developing Maldivian specialists in the field.
The members of the Maldivian Orthopaedic Association also shed light on the challenges they face in contracting specialists in the field. Moreover, they briefed the Vice President on the latest developments on the ongoing work of the Orthopaedic Masters program to be initiated in collaboration with Maldivian National University (MNU) next year.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Faisal Naseem praised the efforts of the Maldivian Orthopaedic Association to develop the field and commended their spirit of patriotism. The Vice President also noted that the Government places a high priority on developing local human resources based on the national skills shortage list. He assured the members of the Maldivian Orthopaedic Association that the Government would provide all the support and assistance they require to develop human resources in the sector.
