President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of late Ameena Mohamed Ameen regarding her passing today.

During a telephone call to a family member of Late Ameena Mohamed Ameen, President noted that he was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of her and extended his heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to the members of the family. President Solih prayed that Allah (SWT) grant late Ameena’s soul eternal peace in Janna.

Ameena passed away this morning at the age of 85 after being ill for some time. Ameena is a daughter of Late Mohamed Ameen Didi, the first President of the Maldives.

The late Ameena Mohamed Didi served the Maldives Government for more than 20 years. Her service began on 23rd July 1955 as Deputy Principal of Madhrasathul Saniyya and continued until 17th December 1957. Following a career gap, she resumed her service on 21st May 1961 as a secretary of Health Ministry. She continued serving the Maldives Government until 16th January 1968, and during this period she served as the Secretary to the Prime Minister (Vazeerul Auzam) and also served as Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office. Ameena resumed her service again on 10th February1980 during the Presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. During that period, she was appointed as Director of Social Affairs at the President Office and continued her service for 8 years. Following that, she served as the Director of Social Affairs of Ministry of Home Affairs and Social Services and also served as Director of Social Services of Ministry of Health and Welfare until 1st March 1991.

Late Ameena Mohamed Ameen also served as one of the appointed members to the Parliament by the President.
