Vice President Faisal Naseem has urged all parents to ensure every child has the opportunity to prosper in a career of their choosing. The Vice President made the remarks after inaugurating the ‘Heyvalla’ programme initiated by the Ministry of Education. The programme was launched at a function held at Ungoofaaru School this evening.

Stating that the future of the nation depends on nurturing a generation of competent and productive citizens, the Vice President elaborated on the priority accorded to this by other nations. He further noted the importance of human resources development, especially for countries like the Maldives with minimal resources.

Emphasising the importance accorded to education sector development by the Administration, the Vice President highlighted that the largest allocation in the budget was earmarked for this sector.

Vice President Faisal Naseem is accompanied in his one-day visit to Ungoofaaru Island by the Minister of Education Aishath Ali.

‘Heyvalla’ is a nation-wide skills development programme initiated by the Education Ministry to provide vocational training for students who complete secondary education. The programme also entails internship opportunities and skills development in numerous fields.

As part of the programme, a carpentry and sewing class was launched in Ungoofaaru School today. At the function, the Vice President was presented with a wooden box designed by students of the carpentry class.
