President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided, upon recommendation from the Cabinet, to observe Farmers’ Day on 15 October every year. The decision was made at today’s Cabinet meeting following deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.
Since 2009, 10 August was observed annually as the Farmers’ Day, to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work and contributions of farmers to ensuring food security and promote employment in the farming industry. Farmers’ Day also allows for policymakers and industry stakeholders to gather and discuss ways to address challenges facing the industry.
A new date was designated to be observed as Farmers’ Day after celebrations in previous years had been postponed due to several reasons.
