President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the Councillors and institutional representatives of Neykurendhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The meeting was held as part of his ongoing visit to the island to meet with the scientists and researchers of the ‘Maldives Expedition.’

Discussions at the meeting were focused on the developmental plans of the island and concerns of its residents. Some of the issues raised by the Councillors include difficulties in harbour usage, need for a water and sewerage network, improving electricity services, and challenges faced due to the lack of employment opportunities.

The Councillors also noted issues concerning the conservation area of the island, in addition to projects planned for this year related to sports and development of sporting facilities.

Speaking with the Councillors, President Solih affirmed that the Administration would work with relevant stakeholders to address the challenges faced by the residents of the island.
