President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with council members and institutional representatives from Fonadhoo Island. The meeting was held tonight at the Secretariate of Fonadhoo Island Council as part of his ongoing visit to three islands of Laamu Atoll.
During the meeting, the Councillors and representatives briefed President Solih on the challenges and most persistent issues faced by the Island community.
Councillors further emphasized the need for utility services at the recently allocated land area for housing development and requested expanding other services such as Police Service in the Island. Moreover, Councillors also expressed their concern on the waste management issue and also highlighted that some streets of the Island require more street light.
Heads and senior representatives from the Island’s institutions highlighted the need for upgrading the local public transport network. They also stressed the importance of renovating school premises and requested to facilitate more opportunities for youth development and overall development of the Island.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih emphasized the importance of collaborative effort between stakeholders and the Island Council to resolve most pressing issues in the community. The President also assured that the government would take necessary action after discussing with the line ministries to tackle the issues highlighted.
