President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message of congratulations to His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, following his assumption of office. The text of President Solih’s message reads as follows:

“Excellency,

On behalf of the Government, the people of the Republic of Maldives, and myself, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations on your appointment as the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. As you assume your challenging responsibilities, I wish to convey to you my best wishes for your success. 

Sri Lanka has not just been a neighbour to the Maldives, but one of our oldest and the most trusted partners. Our two countries continue to share cordial relations, and I remain confident that the existing ties of friendship and cooperation between our two countries will bring forth greater opportunities for collaboration under your leadership. I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency for the advancement of our bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
