His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has this morning received and accepted credentials presented by the New Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, His Excellency, Kohono Walawe, at a special ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.
Following the credentials ceremony, the new Ambassador called on the President to discuss the forward path for bilateral relations between the two countries. The Ambassador expressed his joy at taking up his new posting and expressed his keenness to build on the work of his predecessors to further strengthen the already excellent relations between the two countries which are, in essence, rooted in their cultural similarities, geographic proximity, and a shared history stretching back to antiquity.
In the President’s remarks, he returned the same warm sentiments and commented on the enduring goodwill, and excellent diplomatic cooperation, between Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He congratulated Ambassador Walawe on taking up his diplomatic posting and expressed that his administration stands ready to do all it can to improve cooperation on bilateral and multilateral issues of common interest between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, including trade, consular cooperation, tourism, maritime collaboration and environmental preservation.
Ending the call, the President expressed his full confidence that the new ambassador will do an excellent job in executing his new responsibilities, and wished him luck as he takes up his new diplomatic posting.
