President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has asserted that the contribution of the Japan-Maldives Parliamentarians Friendship League is crucial in maintaining the close friendly relationship between the two nations. President Solih made the remarks in his address during a breakfast hosted this morning by the members of the Friendship League at the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo.
Praising the work of the Friendship League, President Solih highlighted its work with the executive branch within embassy channels, engaging with counterparts in the Parliament and relaying Maldives’ concerns and priorities to all levels of the Japanese government.
“This has ensured that the cooperation between our two countries are not just grounded in mutual goodwill but steered with vision and purpose,” he said.
Towards this end, President Solih expressed his confidence that the Friendship League will continue in its role in scaling Maldives’ partnership with Japan, as the administration embarks on an ambitious national development agenda.
The Japan-Maldives Parliamentarians Friendship League was founded in 1981, and since then it had played a vital role in maintaining Japan as one of the largest donors to the Maldives, contributing to socio-economic development and directly aiding the progress of several of sectors.
