First Lady Fazna Ahmed has visited the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Maldives National University (MNU) to participate in the activities held to mark World Mental Health Day 2019. Every year, 10th October is marked as World Mental Health Day.
The activities organised to mark the occasion include physical exercises, stalls featuring art, psychological testing, henna and painting, mindful breathing, and circulation of mental health awareness messages. The faculty also organised two discussion sessions themed around 'Mental Health of Professionals and Suicide Prevention.'
During the event held at the Faculty of Health Sciences, the First Lady witnessed the management and students of the faculty making the mental health pledge and toured the stalls. The activities were organised by the staff and psychology students of the Department of Wellness.
World Mental Health Day is observed to raise awareness of mental health issues and mobilise efforts in support of the cause. It offers an opportunity for stakeholders to increase dialogue on mental health issues, and discuss what more needs to be done to make complete mental healthcare a reality.
