Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with the Councillors from Guraidhoo Island Council of Kolhumadulu Atoll. Discussions at the meeting, held at the President’s Office this afternoon, were focussed on the developmental plans and concerns about the most pertinent issues and urgent needs faced by the residents of the island.
During the meeting, Guraidhoo Councillors shared their concerns regarding difficulties in using the island’s harbour, the current state of the ice plant, lack of a means to provide emergency services, issues related to the inter-atoll ferry service and worries about increased coastal erosion. Members of the Women’s Development Committee of Guraidhoo Island also attended the meeting and shared information on the progress of their work.
The Vice President noted that the harbour development project of Guraidhoo Island has been contracted and urged the council to monitor the progress of the project. He further inquired about the education system on the island and urged the council to undertake measures to ensure better care for children.
Regarding the issues raised by the Councillors, the Vice President stated that the administration would take necessary action after discussing with relevant ministries to address the specific questions and concerns.
