President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today met with the United Nations Secretary-General His Excellency António Guterres at the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly. The meeting took place at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Speaking during the meeting the President indicated that it was a great privilege to participate in the 74th General Assembly during the first year of his presidency.

Moreover, the President extended his appreciation of the extensive work undertaken by the Secretary-General in the United Nations, especially noting his unwavering commitment in building friendly ties between nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights, which are all key priorities of the Government of Maldives.

The President also emphasized that Maldives considers the UN as vital to effectively carry out the domestic and international agenda of the current Maldivian administration.

The President and Secretary-General discussed ways of collaboration and avenues of cooperation between the Maldives and the United Nations.

His Excellency António Guterres reciprocated the President’s sentiments, further expressing that the UN is always willing to be of assistance to the Maldives.
