President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today ratified Heritage Act and the Second Amendment to Tax Administration Act.
The Heritage Bill was passed by the Parliament on Wednesday, 28th August 2019, at the 43rd sitting of the second session of the People’s Majlis. The 2nd Amendment to Tax Administration Bill was passed by the Parliament on 3rd September 2019, at the 45th sitting of the second session of the People’s Majlis.
The Heritage Act ensures the documentation, preservation and protection of cultural heritage. This Act will also ascertain the procedures and jurisdictions of the state and individuals, as well as stipulate that acts resulting in the loss of items or sites of historical significance as criminal acts. The purpose of the Heritage Act is to safeguard the perpetuation of items and sites of historical significance to future generations.
The 2nd Amendment to Tax Administration Act ratified today, proposes amends to the composition of the governing board members at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). The Tax Administration Act stipulates that MIRA governing board comprises of seven members, to which the president appoints five members, Finance Minister appoints one member and includes the Commissioner General of Taxation.
Upon ratification, the Acts have now been published in the government gazette.
