President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of the Dhidhdhoo Island Council of North Ari Atoll. The meeting was held at the President’s Office this afternoon.

During the meeting, the President enquired about the needs and concerns of the people of Dhidhdhoo island, ongoing developmental plans and future development plans of the island. The Councillors relayed details of several concerns and pressing issues such as concerns regarding issues of the harbour, beach erosion, upgrading the health services and requests from the youth regarding recreational facilities.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih shared updates of projects marked within the scope of the 2019 government budget and mentioned that the harbour project is planned to commence later this year and will be completed the following year. Concerning individual unresolved issues, the President expressed that these would be taken up with relevant line ministries to ensure that they are given due attention.

Moreover, the President also stated that the proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act will exponentially increase the roles and responsibilities of the Councillors and help address a majority of the concerns raised.
