On his current visit to some islands of Kolhumadulu Atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the members of Kolhumadulu Atoll.
During the meeting, the President enquired about the needs and concerns of the people, ongoing developmental plans and future development plans of all the islands in the atoll.
Speaking at the meeting, the Atoll Councillors noted, with gratitude, that the resident's concerns shared with the President in a previous meeting have all been addressed by the government and stated that the development projects budgeted for this year are all ongoing.
During the meeting, the Councillors noted the difficulties faced in regards to limited office space in the Secretariat of the Atoll Council, concerns regarding the progress of resort development in the atoll, concerns regarding the damaged ice plant in Guraidhoo island, lack of practice grounds for licensing land vehicles and issues in the Atoll ferry system. Further, the Councillors also touched upon improving health services and facilities in different islands of the atoll, renovation of the main atoll Hospital, and other hospitals and health centres in Kolhumadulu Atoll.
The President shared details of ongoing and future plans for developing Kolhumadulu Atoll and also stated that with the proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act will exponentially increase the roles and responsibilities of the Councillors and help address a majority of the concerns raised by the Councillors.
