President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of the Buruni Island Council. At the meeting held this afternoon at the Secretariat of the Buruni Council, the President and the Councillors discussed the main issues confronting the community and ways to resolve them.
The Councillors relayed details of several concerns and pressing issues such as expanding the school facilities, soil erosion issues and problems with the electricity plant. The Councillors also discussed plans to empower and develop the youth and children on the island, suggesting infrastructural projects such as a multi-purpose hall, sports ground and a park. The Councillors also disclosed that the island's schoolchildren have grown markedly healthier with the introduction of the Naasthaa Program.
The President stated that the concerns shared by the members of the council will be relayed to the relevant line ministries.
The President is currently visiting Buruni as part of his trip to islands of Kolhumadulu Atoll, and is scheduled to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Buruni School this evening.
