Delivering opening remarks today at the Heads of Mission (HOM) Meeting held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Solih reiterated his administration’s overarching foreign policy vision, which will accord paramount importance to preserving and protecting the Maldives’ sovereignty, security and identity.

He thanked all the HOMs present for their ongoing work to strengthen the Maldives ties with all nations and providing services and consular assistance to Maldivians living abroad. The President further expressed that he would do all he can to assist the Ambassadors in their work of providing such services and would also help them to resolve any challenges they confront and any concerns they raise.

With regard to using our foreign policy to improve the socio-economic welfare of Maldivians, the President highlighted many of the achievements of this administration. Under its stewardship the Maldives has managed to increase the inflow of tourists, thereby providing a boon to our economy, and has signed several development projects with our partners from across the globe, targeting enhancing the entire nation’s infrastructure and the provision of social services.

The President noted that the Maldives should always be a forward-looking country that is cognizant of global trends and actively participates in the shaping of international discourse, especially where it pertains to us. Further, in making our overtures to other countries for friendship and cooperation the Maldives should strive to maintain its position as a respected member of the world community, an endeavour in which our Heads of Mission can crucially contribute.
