President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has, under the powers vested unto his office under law 10/96, through executive action established a state enterprise devoted to roads development – ‘Roads Development Cooperation ltd (RDCL)’. This decision was made in light of his administration’s stated commitment to providing all of Maldives with all the basic conveniences and amenities necessary for modern living, a key component thereof being ease of transport.

RDC’s mandate will be to facilitate the building of high quality roads across all Maldivian islands, and where appropriate, increase their connectivity, thereby easing travel within and between the Maldives’ various population centers. This will in turn enhance economic, societal and infrastructural progress across the breadth of the country.
